Day 2 of 30: Drone Crash!

Overall, it was a productive day one. I had a meeting re-scheduled for today so I had more time to spend learning my drone. The drone I am using is a DJI Phantom 3 Standard. It was recommended to me and so far I am really happy with it. If you are looking to buy a drone in the future the DJI series seems to be pretty user friendly.

By the end of the day I definitely became more comfortable with flying and getting used to the controls. I captured some really good footage on a near perfect day weather-wise. Early in the day I took a few shots around Walnut.

After re-charging the batteries (battery life is about 20 minutes flying time on this drone), I headed out to Green River Country Club. I've been working on a promotional video for the Country Club and getting some aerial footage is something I've been looking forward to because of how beautiful the course is. I shot hole 6, 7 and 9 and I was feeling really confident by the time I reached 9.

But, sometimes your day takes a turn that you are not expecting. After capturing the video at the top of this post and the drone was returning to land, it ran into a tree (my fault) and took a pretty hard fall. It still turns on, it still flies, but my camera arm seems to be bent so I'm hoping I can fix it myself. Google/Youtube are wonderful tools. Below is a picture of the drone after the crash, grass stains and all.

It could have been worse and I believe I can fix it. If not, I'll be purchasing another because I believe this drone is going to be an important marketing tool for businesses.

Back at it today and then a busy weekend ahead with a wedding and Abby's dance recital.

Have a wonderful weekend.
